Getting started with Drupal - what human resources are out there?
Please Note: All posts made on this section of the forum will also be sent a mailing list. Before posting ensure that this is the appropriate forum.
Hi everyone, i am a newbie to Drupal - previously i have made use of freelance programmers to develop all the backend CMS elements for sites for my clients, but i have recently decided to try and do a lot more of the smaller site myself and have decided on Drupal as the platform.
I have got as far as installing Drupal on a server, adding the modules i want to use and playing with cck and views. Adding those basics I am comfortable with.
When it comes to the more complex requirements I have for functionality and design I would say i am 60% of the way there, but there is still a lot to learn in order for me to get what i want out of Drupal for my client sites.
The second part is obviously the theming element. I am not a programmer and i have not got much if any experience with php so this part is proving very difficult for me to get my head around. That and learning Drupal’s functionality and requirements has caused some frustration.
I have read a lot on the Drupal site, i have downloaded loads of tutorial videos, but there comes a time in any process where a human is easier to understand than reading documentation or watching a video because they can identify a mistake and explain the problem and the solution.
Are there any members of this forum who are willing and able to assist in this regard. One on one training/troubleshooting for Drupal is kinda what i am looking for when i get stuck.
If there is anyone out there that can assist, i would really appreciate it if you could contact me and we can decide on how to proceed.
Thanks.

Getting started with Drupal - what human resources are out there
Hi Quintin,
I'd be happy to spend 2 hours with you, free of charge to discuss some
of the areas where you're getting stuck. Contact me if you'd like to
work out the details.
This topic came up yesterday in our monthly Drupal users meeting. We
agreed that it would be great if there was a place people could go on a
weekly basis to get free Drupal training.
In this spirit, I've set aside the last Wednesday of every month, from
18:30 - 20:30 to cover introductory topics to Drupal, as well as to
answer any general questions on Drupal and web development. Anyone is
welcome to come along. Perhaps some of the other Drupal companies out
there want to do the same on a different day?

Getting started with Drupal - what human resources are out there
Hi George, wow, that is an awesome gesture, I really appreciate it - I hope I didn't infer that I wanted the time to be free in my post, I am happy to pay for the expertise.
I am not sure if the learning curve is steep for everyone, but with so many things to learn it is a pretty daunting task when you get stuck and don’t know what you did wrong in the first place :-)
With regards the session - I am in your hands, please let me know when you are available and perhaps I can send you a list of questions before hand or something?
Thanks, have an excellent day!

Hi all,
I don't mind giving a 2-4 hour workshop at the next drupal day. Been
meaning to make some Drupal user group meeting but always seem to miss
them. Maybe if I am committed to something it will mean I will pitch
up :)

I chatted to Quintin and we've settled on Tuesday 15 June at 18:00 for a
training session. It will be in Bryanston and I have space for up to 5
people, so it will be on a first come first serve basis (free of charge).
I think it's best to move this discussion off the list. If anyone else
wants to attend, just mail me at george at springfisher dot com.
I'll still hold the open session on the last Wednesday of the month (30
June) too.

Hi All,
First time mailing to this list, noob Drupal user! - I would be very interested in attending a Drupal introduction or howto on how things work and what is possible, I have played with it a bit, but I am not a programmer, just done a bit of (very) basic php mysql sites.
If there is a chance of this type of gathering? - and possibly in Joburg?? or anywhere?
I found the available documentation and information a tad involved - I really need a good guide (or help) - eventually I went to Joomla, but I have heard so many good things about Drupal from a lot of users I would like to find out more if possible.
