State of Drupal in Emerging Markets Survey

Tue, 17/01/2012 - 07:35

Hi everyone!

I am presenting on what's happening with Drupal in emerging markets at DrupalCon Denver.

As some of you know, I lived in India for about 6 years; a few of them developing in Drupal. I am also an Acquia employee (for the past 3 years) and now mostly work in training.

I know the Indian situation pretty well, but I'm as clueless as anyone about most of the rest of the world. So I made a little survey to try and gather some opinions and data. "Emerging market" is a loaded and awful term, but for lack of a better one, I'm using it to mean anywhere that doesn't already have a large Drupal marketplace and community (i.e. North America and Western Europe).

The goals of my presentation are:

  • Highlight the growth of Drupal worldwide
  • Provide insights on the adoption patterns of customers in emerging markets
  • Show the challenges and opportunities for SMEs and large companies
  • Celebrate and discuss the challenges of new Drupal communities around the world

Please take a moment to fill it out (5 minutes maximum). The results will be presented in Denver and the raw data will be shared with everyone.

http://www.jacobsingh.name/content/state-drupal-emerging-markets-survey-...

I've posted this to several groups, but if you want to repost it in your local group or an area I didn't hit (there are many) please go ahead and do so.

Starts on the 5th December and runs for 2 weeks at your own pace. Places are limited as this is pilot course.

Read more here to find out what "Hello Drupal" is: http://training.acquia.com/hellodrupal

Who is it for? This is for people who have never used Drupal before. Please pass this invitation along to anyone you know who is brand new to Drupal.http://learndrupal7.drupalgardens.com/

Who is it not for? If you know what a module is, and you've made content types and views before, you might find this course a little slow for you.

How can you join? Apply to join the course. You must be able to commit to attending for the two weeks. See the schedule: http://learndrupal7.drupalgardens.com/content/schedule This includes two live online sessions, and various course discussions. Drupal 7 migration

Thu, 27/10/2011 - 10:24

Hi

just wondering if and when everyone is going to be migrating their sites to drupal 7. There seems to be a lot more modules with working versions or at least beta versions for 7 and D7 replaces the need for a lot of mandane (yet important ) modules.

So just out of interest is everything thinking of migration and if not what are the main concerns for not moving yet?

Also anyone know any best practices for migrating content or have a site that has information on methodology to moving content from one drupal database to another, as there can be ( from what i have experienced ) a greater advantage of moving the content onto a fresh D7 base then actually performing a drupal update. If you disagree please let me know why.

Greylisted / Blacklisted at drupal.org

Wed, 26/10/2011 - 16:51

Is anyone else having a problem with greylisting / blacklisting at http://drupal.org ? I tried to post this earlier and was flagged as spam. My service provider is Telkom. Its happening on 3 different computers with different operating systems (Ubuntu Karmic + Ubuntu Lynx, windows xp), 2 different modems. Telkom tells me that IPs are reset every 24 hours, but drupal.org's greylisting reports a different IP every few requests.

I have a support request with more details here: http://drupal.org/node/1308240 where killes@www.drop.org has valiantly tried to help me. I am very bewildered by all of this and was wondering if anyone can clarify what is going on?

There's a post at honeypot which states that there's an issue with SAIX / NAT web-caching (http://projecthoneypot.org/board/read.php?f=4&i=725&t=725) but to be honest this is a bit beyond me - and if this is the problem, I would have thought the issue would have more coverage. However, my attempts to get assistance where met with incomprehension at Telkom.

If anyone can shed some light I'd really appreciate it.

Finding Drupal Work?

Mon, 24/10/2011 - 17:47

Hi all.

I work with my brother with a great focus on Drupal - be it theming or module development. We have the dedication and skill behind us to accomplish any task handed to us (so far :)

We have a problem, however; we are based in a village outside of Port Alfred. How would we go about marketing ourselves to larger areas, such as Johannesburg?

The amount of money to be made in the Eastern Cape has proven to be limited in this area of work, and honestly, we are getting a little bit worried.

Thanks for any input.
